This Article Solved My Issue

Recruiting Emails going to the Gmail Promotions Tab

This filtering, while mostly helpful, is also automated – meaning Gmail automatically filters the user’s incoming email to their different tabs based on their content and the actions taken by the recipient.

Why are my emails going to the Promotions tab in Gmail?

The Promotions tab in Gmail is a feature of Tabbed Inboxes that Google introduced in 2013 to support Gmail users with a better inbox experience. A tabbed inbox from Gmail allows users to focus on their most important emails first; those that filter into the Primary tab. This filtering, while mostly helpful, is also automated – meaning Gmail automatically filters the user’s incoming email to their different tabs based on their content and the actions taken by the recipient.

What does this mean for my emails sent from Paycor Recruiting?

There is a chance your emails will land in the promotions tab when you send follow-ups to your applicants using Paycor Recruiting or even from your own email system. There is a possibility that your applicant is not checking their promotions tab as often as they would their primary tab and might be missing your message.

We understand that the ambiguity of where an important email might be filtered can be frustrating, especially considering we have no control over this. That said, we can recommend a few things to help counter the possibility of a promotions tab filter while following up with your recipients. Note that these are all good email related practices regardless of what email provider your recipient uses:

  • Consider enabling texting so you can send a text about your first email to the applicants. A reminder to check their SPAM/junk folder* is a good addition to your first text to a new applicant.
  • Add a disclaimer to your emails (in Paycor Recruiting and outside of it) asking your recipients to add you to their contact list.
  • Make a phone call. Don’t risk losing a great candidate due to a missed email – give them a quick call to ensure they got it!

Note: emails filtered to other tabs in Gmail are not considered SPAM/junk, the filtering is managed solely by Gmail and cannot be changed/updated in Paycor Recruiting. Paycor Recruiting needs to consider emails that land in the Promotions tab as delivered, and support cannot troubleshoot any further on these.
