How Do I Create Shorter Tracking Links for Job Descriptions?

Describes how to create shortened tracking links for your job descriptions in Recruiting.

This article for adminstrators.

Recruiting's default tracking links can be pretty long. If you want shorter links, Recruiting includes a Show short link option to use whenever you generate a Tracking Link.

This gives you a short link you can use anywhere you would normally post a tracking link, like on a job board.

If you put your jobs in newspapers or print ads, we strongly suggest using these short links because they are much easier for people to type in.

Short links are easier to manage, use up less space (which is helpful for social media), and make sharing your jobs easier.

Recruiting lets you make short tracking links, as well as short Gravity referral links that you can share on Twitter.

Prerequisite: You must have already created a Tracking Link for the job post.

  1. Log in and go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking. Your Recruiting dashboard appears.
  2. Click the job to see the job info screen.
  3. At the top right, click Promote and the promotion popup appears. Shows the Job Promotion screen and Tracking Links
  4. On the right side in the Tracking Links section, hover over the link and click Copy Link.
  5. In the Tracking Links popup click Show short link., and when the field changes, click COPY.

If your organization uses our Gravity app, we automatically shorten the job links generated for Twitter since you're limited to tweets up to 140 characters long.

Craigslist blocks shortened links due to concerns over shortened links potentially leading to spam, malware, etc., so you cannot post shortened links on Craigslist.

However, Craigslist does accept hyperlinking, so if you want a shorter link on Craigslist, use HTML to create a hyperlink to the job.

Example: To apply, please <a href=http://newton.newtonsoftware.com/career/JobIntroduction.action?id=8a3b93ee4867dd5a01487f9b58ad2bd9&source=Craigslist”>click here</a> is changed to this: To apply, please click here.
