Add, edit, or delete departments in Recruiting

Learn how to add, edit, or delete company departments in Recruiting.

This article is for administrators.

You must have access to Recruiting and Company Settings within your Applicant Tracking System.

Overview

Use Company Departments to organize jobs in Recruiting. Departments help you group roles and keep job postings clear. You can add, edit, or delete departments at any time.

Open Company Departments

  1. Go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking to open the Recruiting platform.
  2. The Applicant Tracking link will navigate you to the Home Dashboard in your Applicant Tracking System.
    Shows the Recruiting dashboard
  3. Select Admin and then select Company Settings
  4. In the left menu, select Departments. The Company Departments page opens.

Add a Department

  1. On the Company Departments page, select Create a New Department
  2. Enter the department name.
  3. Review the details for accuracy.
  4. Select Save. The new department is now available for jobs in Recruiting.

Edit a Department

  1. On the Company Departments page, find the department you want to change.
  2. Select the Edit icon () next to the department.
  3. Update the department name or details.
  4. Select Save. Your changes apply to future use of the department in Recruiting.

Delete a Department

  1. On the Company Departments page, find the department you want to remove.
  2. Select the Delete icon ().
  3. If the department is currently attached to active jobs, the system will not allow you to delete the department until it has been replaced with a different department or until those active jobs are closed. The system will alert you with a Replace this Department pop-up when you select the Delete icon.  The pop-up contains a link to select a replacement department for those jobs, so you can delete the department that is no longer needed.
Deleted departments are removed from Recruiting.

Tips

  • Use clear department names that match your company structure.
  • Review departments regularly to keep the list up to date.
  • Deleting a department does not delete jobs. It only removes the department option.
